History
GreenFleet was established as a pilot project in Auckland, New Zealand in 2000. The support and results that were achieved during this pilot phase indicated the importance of expanding the program to a national scale. Throughout the year that the pilot was running, GreenFleet obtained financial support from a number of organisations including: CPI, The Tindall Foundation, Flint Ink, Auckland Regional Council, Paradigm, Urgent Couriers, Stagecoach NZ, EngineCare, Vehicle Testing NZ, and a number of others. GreenFleet members of the pilot included 20 companies. The project successfully hosted 3 planting events, with the combined participation of businesses and the community. A number of supporting educational resources were developed including: a website, educational video, drivers resources, and incentives for alternative transport.
In 2003, the programme was formally launched with the support of Auckland Regional Council, Honda, LeasePlan and Toyota. Thrifty Car Rentals joined as sponsors in 2006.The GreenFleet now operates nationally with participating businesses in all 5 Sustainable Business Network Regions. Originally developed as a 3 step programme for sustainable business, it has evolved into a set of tools to assist business to measure and reduce transport costs and emissions.
