As congestion rises and parking becomes more expensive, many businesses are looking for new ways of getting staff to work. Travel plans can benefit not just the organisation and its employees, but also the community that surrounds it. There are also co-benefits such as improved health and local air quality to be gained.

What is a Workplace Travel Plan?

A travel plan starts with a staff survey and is a package of tailored measures introduced by employers to encourage staff and even customers to use alternatives to single-occupancy car-use.
A travel might include initiatives such as:
* Car pool schemes
* An improvement to cycling or walking facilities
* Promoting flexible-working practices such as remote access and video conferencing
* Promoting passenger transport use

Workplace travel planning for small and medium businesses
At one time, Workplace Travel Plans were only for large organisations with huge resources. Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) and GreenFleet have been working in partnership remedy this and develop a workplace travel planning website for small and medium enterprises (SME). Specially designed for organisations with between 1 and 50 staff, the website takes SME?s through a simple process of developing workplace travel plan, helping their staff to save travel costs and reduce emissions. ARTA and GreenFleet are looking to engage a group of Auckland SME?s to pilot the website and provide feedback to ensure the website works well for small organisations.ÿSee www.mytravelplan.co.nz for more information
