GreenFleet K Valley Planting 2009

With a motivated band of approximately 30 people, made up of some of Bay of Plenty’s GreenFleet members along with the helping hands of Garden Art and under the watchful eye of Tauranga City Council Craig Fea, close to 3000 trees have planted in the Kopurererua Valley.

Kahikatea’s were planted into an area which is being brought back to its former state of wetlands.  It was definitely wet and very muddy, which made for a lot of fun! The planting took around 2 hours, and was made substantially easier by the holes being pre dug (courtesy of Garden Art) and all planters walked away with a great sense of accomplishment.

GreenFleet is operated developed by the Sustainable Business Network to help and encourages businesses to actively reduce both the costs and associated harmful impacts of transportation.  With the help of National partners such as EECA and at a local level Environment Bay of Plenty, Tauranga City Council and Naturally Native, GreenFleet provides a set of tools to help businesses to become more transport efficient and offset carbon emissions.

Jo Wills, BOP Regional Manager says “It’s always a pleasure to organise GreenFleet Planting days, the businesses involved really enjoy getting the plants into the ground and its fantastic to see the progress of Kopurererua valley with the knowledge that GreenFleet membership is helping to make it happen.”

GreenFleet members who planted on the day were Fulton Hogan, Tauranga City Council, Environment Bay of Plenty and Energy Options.
