Workplace Travel Plans help you become more efficient at travel during the working day.

GreenFleet Workplace Travel Planning

(Also called Travel Demand Management)

Being transport efficient also involves looking at your transport usage as a business – a Workplace Travel Plan will help you to encourage staff to look at all the transport options available, and identifies how to become more efficient in the travel that takes place during work hours.  Not only will this save you money on mounting fuel prices, it’s also a lot better for the environment.

GreenFleet has sponsored and written the Transport Resource for the SBN's Get-Sustainable programme. This programme is specuially designed for small and medium sized enterprises. The resource is available FREE to all GreenFleet members and comes with FREE personal one-to-one assistance from GreenFleet to help you integrate travel planning into your organisation.

GreenFleet and often hold workshops in order to guide businesses through the process of getting a Travel Plan started.

Here is an outline of what the process of Business Travel Planning is all about:

  • Year 1: Formalise your approach in a policy or document.
  • Onwards: re-establish commitment to travel management, review policy, communicate to staff.

2. Measure and Monitor

  • Year 1: Establish baseline, gather information around facilities for alternate transport modes like cycling and passenger transport and fleet driving habits.
  • Onward: Measure progress against baseline.
  • Involve: Wider staff.

3. Prioritise and Act

  • Identify areas for improvement e.g. facilities for cyclists, information on passenger transport and fuel useage.
  • Prioritise areas for improvement.
  • Set targets and KPI's.
  • Action plan by determining steps toward achieving each target.
  • Involve: CEO/GM/top-tier managers and wider staff.

4. Report and reward

  • After 6-12 months: communicate and celebrate improvements against targets.
  • Make relevant links to external reporting programmes.
  • Onwards - include in performance reviews.
  • Involve: HR/reporting/communications.
